THINNING LOCS AT THE ROOT,MIDDLE AND THE END
This post hopes to address all the possible causes of thinning locs at the root, middle of locs or the ends. I have written endless posts on the causes of thinning locs and hope to use this post to summarize it all.
Causes Of Thinning Locs At The Root:
1. Over maintenance: Over maintenance of your locs in terms of retwistingor retightening too often is a major cause of thinning at your locs.
Interlocking is said to be done too often if it is done in a time frame less than 8 weeks.
Palmrolling is considered to be done to be done too often if done in less than 4 weeks.
2. Neglect: Wrongly semi-freeforming can cause thinning roots. You might be wrongly freeforming if you're
🤔not protecting your locs
🤔not washing your locs
🤔not moisturizing your locs
🤔using unhealthy junk products on hair that can cause buildup
3. Tight styling: Putting your locs in an overly tight style can cause your scalp to produce thinned hair at the roots with addition to the undue unease you feel or headaches.
4. Other factors: such as pregnancy, surgery, drugs, etc. I have already written a comprehensive list of these factors here. Thinned locs may persist as long as the factors remain present. Once absent it may take a while for your locs to recover to its previous thickness.
Causes of Thinning In The Middle Of Your Locs:
1. Inconsistent maintenance routine: Thinning can appear anywhere in a loc where inconsistent maintenance routine is done. Let me explain, say you maintain your locs by palmrolling and deviate to interlocking for a while and later on revert back to palmrolling, this inconsistency created by not sticking to a routine may cause the interlocked area between the palmrolled portions appear thin and creates a weak spot in the locs
2. Difference in retwist time: Say you retwist once a month and you suddenly go months, say 6 months before you had another retwist. Due to the large stretch of time between both retwist, the loc portion that is retwisted once a month appears thinner compared to the loc part retwisted after 6 months. This difference caused by stretching retwist time caused an illusion of thinned locs.
3. Use of elastics: The use of elastics in ponytail styling or put at the end of a loc for styling purpose in is not bad or harmful.
Such elastic use becomes harmful to your locs when it is left too tight and it is left in for a long time can cause that area of locs affected to become thinned out because of such practices.
In essence when you have in elastic in your locs, ensure it is snug around your locs and it ain't left in for too long it appears tight.
Causes Of Thinning Locs At The End
Locs may begin to thin out with time. The older the locs, the greater the probability for the loc tips to break off or thin out as it is the oldest portion of the locs.
