HOW TO START DREADLOCS ON REALLY SHORT HAIR WITH A DREAD SPONGE

There is no limitation on the length of hair to have before you can begin your loc journey. As usual,I love to stress on the versatility on locs in that it is no discriminator of persons in terms of race, hair texture and definitely not on the terms of hair length.
To start dreads/locs in really short hair of about 1" of new growth on natural hair, you will need to employ the use of a dread sponge.
A dread sponge is typically an improvised foam with lot of holes in it. The size of the holes depends on the size of locs you're looking to have. Therefore, smaller holes equal smaller locs size and larger holes equal larger locs.

I'll guide you through the steps to begin your short locs journey:
💬 On newly washed hair/damp hair, pick your dread sponge and begin to rotate it through your scalp in a single direction is either clockwise or anticlockwise as deemed comfortable with you.

💬 You repeat this action starting from the back towards the front or vice versa, your choice.

💬 Be gentle on your scalp as you do this rotating movements as it can get pretty intense and hurt your scalp and your hands could hurt from muscle action.

💬 Take breaks when necessary for relief.

💬 You should feel your curly hair clumping together and tangle into spiral twist locs. There you have it, new set of home grown locs😀.

💬 As for maintenance, as new growth sets in you repeat the process above the incorporate the new growth into the locs with the dread sponge until you grow some length to choose alternative loc maintenance such as palmrolling/ interlocking/ crocheting
