HOW TO STOP THINNING LOCS

Thinning locs can be one of the worst nightmares any lochead could face as it could give rise to more anxiety and stress.
I will begin addressing this issue of thinning locs by first categorizing it into two;
1⃣Thinning of locs from the root of the scalp
2⃣Thinning along the length of the loc

1⃣ Thinning of locs from the scalp is a condition seen when a loc begin to thin out subsequently from the root. This condition usually arises as a result of
👉Drug reaction
👉Chemotherapy
👉Surgery
👉Post partum shedding
👉Stress
👉Advanced age
👉Alopecia

In the aforementioned causes, the solution is to
❤Identify the underlying causes and addressing it accordingly either by
❤Discontinue drug
❤Live a healthy lifestyle
❤Cutting locs and reattaching them later
❤Relieving stress
❤Diet changes
❤Lifestyle modifications: no smoking

b)Thinning along the shaft of the loc is usually caused by stress on that loc either due to
👉Retwisting too often
👉Over retwisting a particular loc
👉Increased tension on the loc
👉Tight styling
👉Using a tight elastic on the locs when styling as in ponytail

This type of thinning usually requires loc repair such as
❤Knotting the loc on itself
❤Combing two locs together either by twisting them together or meshing them together with the use of a crochet hook.
❤Wrapping afro hair(such as Marley hair) along the thin areas of the loc to fill it up

Other supportive measures to adopt include
💯Weekly hot oil treatment
💯Don't retwist too often
💯Avoid tight styling to avoid frontal alopecia as well
💯Drink more water
💯Oils such as JBCO has been shown to treat alopecia following continued use.
💯Relieve stress by doing exercise, yoga, doing what makes you happy, etc

🆕 An OTC(Over the counter) topical drug Rogaine(topical Minoxidil) has been shown to treat genetic alopecia and yields obvious results after 3 months of continued use.
👉Also note that Rogaine is not a permanent cure but only works as long as you continue to use it.
👉Care should be taken to areas to where it is applied as it is said to induce growth where it is topically applied.

  • 👉Rogaine is topical. Oral alternative should not be used.
