HOW TO MOISTURIZE YOUR LOCS CORRECTLY
Moisture is most essential need for a healthy loc. It is sometimes misunderstood to mean Oiling one's loc. This misnomer is addressed sufficiently here.
The term moisture equates to water.
Thus the first and only way of moisturizing your locs is to add water to them which can easily be done either by
❤Spritzing it from a spray bottle
❤Or simply when having a shower
This water(moisture) is then sealed with oils to avoid evaporation from your locs into the environment.
Examples of oils that can be used to seal in moisture in your locs include
1⃣ Natural oils: They are advocated to seal in moisture because they are light and do not cause buildup in your locs neither do they clog up your scalp pores.
They include
❤Coconut oil
❤Olive oil
❤Jojoba oil
❤Almond oil
❤Rose hip oil
❤Vit E oil
❤Processed castor oil
2⃣. Essential oils: are volatile oils or ethereal oils named after the plant they came from.
πThey usually have certain characteristic fragrance.
πWhen essential oils are used to moisturize locs,it is important to first dilute them with natural oils or carrier oils as listed above before use.
❤Peppermint oil
❤Tea tree oil
❤Eucalyptus oil
❤Lavender oil
❤Rosemary oil
❤Thyme oil
3⃣. Heavy oils such as
❤Jamaican black castor oil which is unprocessed castor oil should be diluted also with carrier oils before applied to scalp to avoid build up.
π€Shea butter is a heavy butter that can seem a bit tricky in its application in that it can clog up the pores in your scalp and leave residue within the locs which can be stubborn to remove.
From personal experience, I find that this can be tackled by
✔Use of small amount of the butter
✔Use the yellow sheabutter which is soft and melts to touch on application to your palm as I find that the white Shea tends to be thick and cause the build up associated with Shea.
π―Extra could be done for your locs by deep conditioning weekly at most with hot oil treatment to keep your locs hydrated especially after bleaching your locs.
